Wildform: Flash Enhanced Technologyby Nathan Segal July 26, 2001
Wildform is a company that creates software designed to enhance existing technology, enabling users to stream to any platform without the need for a download. Based in Venice, California, Wildform offers two major product lines, SWfx and Flix.
Wildform SWfX is designed as a tool for animating SWF. Simply enter text and choose an effect. Flash 5 compatible, SWfx contains 200 effects that can be used with TrueType and Adobe Type Manager fonts. An exception is unicode fonts. You can customize the installed effects and create, save and reuse effects of your own design. Of the installed 100 effects, 44 are Flash 3 effects and 56 are Flash 4 effects. The other 100 free effects include 60 Flash 4 effects and 40 Flash 3 effects. Note: Flash 3 effects can be imported directly into Flash 4 or 5. When using Flash 4 to output your movies, use the "Load Movie" ActionScript command. For more information check out the "Load Movie Tutorials" in the tutorials section of the Wildform website. Additionally, Wildform released the source .FLAs for all 200 effects included with SWfX, meaning that you can use Flash to alter and transform all the SWfX effects. Wildform's other product is Flix, an application that encodes video into Flash. The encoded video utilizes Flash interactivity and will stream to virtually all platforms, browsers and firewalls without the necessity of a download. From the Wildform perspective, this means that Flix will also be playable in browsers that support the Flash plug-in. And according to Macromedia, roughly 96% of web browsers have the Flash plug-in installed.
